Matt Riddle Calls WWE Main Roster “Watered Down Child’s Product”

Recently, TMZ Sports caught up with WWE NXT star Matt Riddle and asked him a variety of questions surrounding the yellow brand. However, Riddle had some choices words for the main roster of WWE.

Upon being asked why NXT was so hot right now, Riddle responded:

“I think we’re just different, and I know that’s easy to say. We’re different, we’re new, we’re fresh, and we’re not the same, watered down child’s product that WWE is kind of turned into a lot. When people watch us—even though it’s scripted a lot of the time, but it’s more real. It’s more believable.”

In amongst the niceties and the compliments of the yellow brand, that seemed to be a little bit of a dig directed at the main roster there from Riddle. While these thoughts aren’t necessarily new or ground-breaking, it is surprising to hear them coming from someone who’s currently contracted to that company.

Riddle then went on to share his thoughts about whether he’d like to be called up to the main roster any time soon:

“I was thinking about that the other day and I want to get to the main roster. But then I was thinking, ‘Well, maybe I’m thinking about it wrong’ because NXT is so hot, maybe we should stay and try to make it bigger than Raw and SmackDown, and just make it one—like the big guy. Which isn’t impossible I don’t think.”

It’s nice to have dreams, I guess. While NXT is incredibly popular with a certain segment of wrestling fans, the likelihood of it ever catching up to the main roster is essentially zero.

Riddle was finally asked about his dream main roster opponent, and who he would choose if he could:

“Before, I would say Cesaro because he’s so athletic, but after going to Madison Square Garden and having a chat with John Cena, I think wanna fight John Cena. I mean, he might want to wrestle, but I kind of want to fight him and see where it goes.”

It’s not unusual to hear someone wish to challenge Large Match Jonathon, but it is new to want to fight him. Be careful not to work yourself into a shoot, brother.
