Mercedes Mone may be “taking a break” from AEW, but plans have emerged for her during that self-imposed hiatus.
Following weeks of disrespect and Willow Nightingale becoming the new TBS Champion, Mercedes Mone declared that she would return to AEW to “collect more than just titles.”
With Mone still in possession of a number of championships across independent wrestling, one company is set to find a worthy contender for the AEW star.
Winnipeg Pro Wrestling has announced that their Voyageur Cup two-night show will see eight women compete to crown the number one contender for Mone’s Women’s Championship.
Taking place on March 13 and 14, the tournament will be a feature of both nights at the West End Cultural Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Mone became the WPW Women’s Champion on October 19 last year, defeating Jody Threat at Rumble in the Burt 3.
Also set to appear on the show is former WWE star and two-time NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler, with her debut opponent yet to be announced.
At the time of writing, a return date for Mercedes Mone is yet to be confirmed, although WrestleTalk will provide further details as they emerge.
The WPW Voyageur Cup returns with not one, but two massive tournaments.
For the first time in WPW, 8 women will compete across two nights to crown the #1 contender for Mercedes Moné’s WPW Women’s Championship.
