Mercedes Mone has commented on speculation about her potential AEW debut, ahead of the Forbidden Door II NJPW crossover pay-per-view.
AEW and NJPW have officially announced that Forbidden Door II will take place on June 25 at the Scotiabank Centre in Canada.
It has been speculated that IWGP Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone will compete at the event, amid rumors about her status with both promotions.
Speaking at Planet Comicon 2023, Mone indicated that she’s waiting for AEW to call her.
When asked if she’ll be at Forbidden Door, Mone said:
“Ooh, when is it (AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door)? Is it June? June or July? Okay. What day? I don’t know when the show is. Anybody know the date?
“I don’t know, we gotta see then. June’s so far. I think I could be open, July might be open but, gotta get that phone call. Gotta get that phone call from unc.”
Mone won the IWGP Women’s Championship in her first match following her WWE departure, defeating KAIRI at the February 18 Battle in the Valley event.
With Mone’s agreement with Bushiroad set to come to an end soon, it has been speculated that, instead of extending the agreement, Mone could join AEW instead.
Also during the Planet Comicon Q&A, Mone set the record straight regarding her WWE exit, which you can read more about right here.
