When Was Mercedes Mone Cleared To Wrestle Ahead Of AEW Debut Revealed AEW

Backstage details have emerged on Mercedes Mone’s return to the ring, ahead of her AEW in-ring debut at Double or Nothing 2024.

Mone hasn’t wrestled since losing to Willow Nightingale in the inaugural NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship match at the May 2023 NJPW Resurgence event.

The former WWE suffered a serious ankle injury during this bout, which kept her out of the ring for the rest of 2023.

Following Mone’s AEW debut in March, it was confirmed a month later that Mone will challenge for Nightingale’s AEW TBS Championship at the May 26 Double or Nothing event.

With Mone not stepping into the ring prior to this weekend’s match, her TBS Title bout will be her first in-ring outing since suffering her significant injury one year ago.

Mone recently spoke with Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, where she opened up about her injury and return to the ring.

It was during this article that it was revealed that Mone has actually been medically cleared to compete since December 2023, months before her AEW debut.

Staszewski wrote:

“She was medically cleared to wrestle in December and believes she’s in the best shape of her life for her AEW debut.”

Mone’s WWE exit was a newsworthy one, with the former “Sasha Banks” initially suspended after walking out on a Raw taping in May 2022, before her contract with the company expired.

Mercedes Mone, recently commented on her WWE exit, which you can read more about right here.
