Mickie James Gives Her Thoughts On Eva Marie Return

Following her recent WWE release, Mickie James has reacted to Eva Marie returning to WWE, after the company let several women go last month.

On Raw, a video package announced the return of Eva Marie to WWE. Some fans have already criticised the rehiring, pointing out that Mickie James, Peyton Royce, Billie Kay and Chelsea Green were recently released from their WWE contracts.

James has explained her thoughts on Marie’s return. Speaking on Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions podcast, James praised Marie for rebranding herself after leaving WWE in 2017.

Noting that WWE always debut new talent after WrestleMania, James stated that Marie is a draw, so it makes sense that WWE invited her back. Noting that fans will probably still hate her, James pointed out that Marie could capitalise on this heat when she returns to action.

Here is the full quote:

“I think it’s incredible that she’s been able to step away and still remain relevant and rebrand herself and almost excel outside (of WWE). Not everyone does that. I don’t think her wrestling ability was ever her strength. I know she’s been down in NXT working and stuff. I don’t think wrestling was ever her thing. I still believe there’s a role for everybody and not everybody has to be a five-star wrestler and have dream matches. If their character is strong and they can sell tickets and ratings, then it works.

“Fans are like, ‘You just had these budget cuts and let all these people go and then you debut someone else?’ They always debut new talent after WrestleMania, so it falls in line. She’s beautiful and stunning and I do have mad respect in the sense that she has a million followers and has been able to rebrand herself and has been able to do a whole other thing outside of wrestling once she left. I respect that side of her and if she can capitalize on this heat and go, ‘Yeah, so?’ That’s where everyone will hate her and it’ll be great for her.”

Marie first signed with WWE in 2013 after impressing scouts during a casting call. She was promptly added to the Total Divas reality show, where she quickly gained popularity.

She moved to NXT in 2015, before returning to the main roster in early 2016. After leaving WWE in 2017, Marie grew her fanbase, appearing in a handful of films and TV shows, including Celebrity Big Brother.

Last month, Mickie James made headlines after revealing that WWE sent her belongings back to her in a trash bag. Another former WWE star has revealed that they were sent somebody else’s belongings by mistake after their own WWE departure.
