Mike Chioda Reveals Disaster WWE Match He Tried To Stop

Veteran referee Mike Chioda has discussed a disastrous WWE match, revealing that he tried to end the contest early.

At Super ShowDown 2019, The Undertaker battled Goldberg in a “dream” encounter. This dream quickly turned into a nightmare, with multiple dangerous botches coming one after another.

Mike Chioda has revealed that he wanted to finish the match as soon as things began to head south. Speaking with Metro, Chioda admitted that he was scared for both competitors throughout the match.

Explaining that Undertaker and Goldberg were “old-school”, Chioda stated that finishing the match was important for both legends.

Here is the full quote:

“I almost had to call an audible during the Undertaker/Goldberg match at Saudi Arabia. It went downhill after Goldberg got gashed open in the turnbuckle, got concussed. He was badly concussed and he got through the match, but barely. That’s when I was kinda worried because I thought, ‘oh my God!’”

“After the suplex, they almost broke their necks. ‘Oh my God, let’s get this done.’ I was waiting to hear back from somebody.  ‘should I call this match or not because he’s not doing good at all?’”

“They just let them go. When you were an old school wrestler, you didn’t care if you were bleeding – you got through the match, whatever it took, you got through it,” Chioda explained. “You wouldn’t see too many guys just saying, ‘Oh I can’t wrestle no more,’ or ‘I broke my finger,’ or ‘I tore my knee out.’ They still get through the match.”

“Taker tells me something, I’m doing it. I don’t care if the office in the back didn’t like it or not! Taker is one of the bosses, that’s for sure.”

Undertaker next wrestled at Extreme Rules 2019 a month later, teaming with Roman Reigns against Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre. Goldberg returned to the ring in August 2019 to squash Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam.

Super ShowDown 2019 was one of WWE’s Saudi Arabia shows. Last visiting the Middle East in early 2020, a new report has discussed the possibility of WWE returning to Saudi Arabia before the end of 2021.
