Mindset Behind Divisive WWE Raw Segment Revealed

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez spoke about the thinking behind the segments on Monday Night Raw last night between Braun Strowman and Shane McMahon.

Meltzer noted that the idea was to get Shane McMahon to come across as a heel by having him call Braun Strowman stupid, meaning the former Universal Champion has been quietly turned back into a babyface:

Meltzer: “They’re trying to find a way for Shane McMahon to be the heel, so the idea is he’s going to be this dick making fun of the dumb guy (Braun Strowman)”

Alvarez: “Yeah but the dumb guy is supposed to be the f**king heel.”

Meltzer: “The dumb guy is supposed to be the babyface in this skit. Now he’s supposed to be a babyface… 100%. That’s why he was acting like a dick.”

Meltzer then explained that the reason why Shane McMahon has been acting like a heel towards Braun Strowman is that WWE feels as if the fans would naturally cheer for Shane over Braun Strowman in a feud:

“[WWE] felt like was the only way they can go, because they think that people are going to be naturally cheering Shane against Braun Strowman.”

Meltzer also corroborated a report made by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, who noted that Shane McMahon was scripted to make it seem as if he forgot his lines on WWE Raw last night, with people worrying Shane was dealing with health issues.
