A clarification has emerged for the AEW World Championship plans following a successful defense at a recent independent wrestling show.
At Limitless Wrestling on January 16, MJF retained the championship in a match against Alec Price, having also been victorious over Bandido on AEW Dynamite.
With a recent report noting that MJF would continue to defend the title on the independent wrestling scene, the AEW star has now clarified the plans.
The earlier report, courtesy of the Wrestling Observer Daily Update, stated:
“The storyline is that MJF will be defending his title on independent shows which he claimed puts him in the calibre of touring world champions like Ric Flair, Harley Race and Buddy Rogers.”
MJF has now stated that he only plans to make independent appearances if there’s a talent he believes deserves showcasing, tweeting:
“Hate to break it to ya.
“But I’m not sure I’m gonna do many more of those unless I feel like someone is worth my time.
“Not sorry.”
At Worlds End on December 27, 2025, MJF captured the AEW World Championship for a second time, pinning Samoa Joe in a four-way match that also featured Swerve Strickland and Adam Page.
He would subsequently re-introduce the Triple B design for the AEW World Championship.
