MJF Reacts To Roman Reigns AEW Criticism

MJF, one of the ‘four pillars’ of AEW, has reacted to WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns’ criticism of the promotion.

Reigns took aim at AEW in the buildup to the SmackDown vs Rampage head-to-head this past Friday, and a lot of people have had fun with the fact his segment with Brock Lesnar did the same number in the key 18-49 demo as Ruby Soho vs The Bunny.

Speaking on Rasslin’, MJF weighed in on the debate, but wasn’t quite as pointed as you might have imagined. He said:

“Roman Reigns lost in the key demographic to Ruby Soho, and Ruby Soho sucks so I don’t know what to tell you. Don’t get me wrong, that’s not me s**tting on Roman Reigns. I think Roman Reigns is a hell of a performer, he really is. I think he’s absolutely incredible. Am I better than him on the mic and in the ring? Sure, but I’m not gonna go out of my way and talk s**t about him because I respect him. I respect what he does. I respect the hard work that goes into putting out that product that is WWE. Again, someday I might work there. I’m also sure if he sees this, he’ll pretend he doesn’t know who I am because that’s what they do over there. When in reality I know that they’re all watching our stuff. Again, I cannot stress this enough, a huge fan of Roman Reigns. I think he’s great. Would love to work with him one day.”

Teasing a move away from AEW seems to have become part of MJF’s shtick to get under fans’ skin, even though in reality that’s not likely at all.

SmackDown’s half-hour for the crossover featured Becky Lynch vs Sasha Banks and the Brock Lesnar/Roman Reigns contract signing, while AEW’s featured CM Punk vs Matt Sydal, and Ruby Soho vs The Bunny.

The Punk vs Sydal match beat Lynch vs Banks with a 0.28 in 18-49 to 0.21, while the Soho vs Bunny match tied the Lesnar/Reigns segment at 0.23. The Soho vs Bunny match actually beat Lesnar/Reigns in male viewers.
