All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has announced that former WWE and TNA referee Earl Hebner has joined the promotion.
Hebner, who joins alongside referees Paul Turner and Aubrey Edwards, is infamous around the wrestling community for his part in the 1997 Montreal Screwjob at that year’s Survivor Series.
Hebner called for the bell after Shawn Michaels locked Bret Hart in the sharp-shooter, despite Hart not tapping or being informed of the finish.
Both Earl and his brother Dave were fired from WWE in 2005 for selling unauthorised WWE merchandise without the promotion’s knowledge. After this, he joined TNA where he refereed between 2006 and 2017. He was inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame in 2015.
