More details have emerged regarding the WWE return of Davey Boy Smith Jr (David Hart Smith) after he made his return to the company in a dark match on July 16.
Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer, Smith was supposed to report to NXT UK and work as one of the brand’s top babyfaces, feuding with NXT UK Champion WALTER, but COVID-19 changed those plans.
Meltzer noted that WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis recruited him and heavily pushed for him to be on the WWE main roster, with Vince eventually making the call to put him on SmackDown.
It was previously reported that Smith had re-signed with WWE back in March, but the news was kept quiet until it was time to officialy return him.
