More details have emerged regarding the original plans for Ric Flair’s last match during the Starrcast V convention in Nashville.
On July 31, Ric Flair will have a special event during Starrcast V entitled “Ric Flair’s Last Match” that will feature his latest retirement match.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), the working plan is a tag team match with names in mind, but nothing has been finalized as of yet.
Fightful originally reported that Ricky Steamboat was being courted to be a part of this match with the working plan for the WWE Hall of Famer to team with the Rock N’ Roll Express against FTR and Ric Flair.
However, there were several hurdles in the way, including Steamboat’s asking price being “extremely high” even though he did have interest in doing the match.
Steamboat did meet and discuss the possibility of the bout, but terms could not be reached.
Also, FTR had yet to gain clearance for the match from AEW President Tony Khan.
As previously mentioned, there was a press conference today where those working with Starrcast V and Ric Flair announced the first two matches for the event.
We will have further updates regarding the Ric Flair’s Last Match event when they become available.
