As we reported in the last hour, both Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman have been hired by WWE as Executive Directors of Raw and SmackDown Live.
Heyman will be in charge of Raw and Bischoff in charge of SmackDown. This is not a part of a story line and both will report directly to Vince McMahon.
In a press release, WWE wrote:
“In their executive roles, Heyman and Bischoff will oversee the creative development of WWE’s flagship programming and ensure integration across all platforms and lines of business. The creation of these roles further establishes WWE’s ability to continuously reinvent its global brand while providing two distinct creative processes for its flagship shows.”
In an update, PWInsider is now reporting that the deal for Heyman to become executive director has been on the table since February, but the Bischoff deal only came about in recent weeks.
Heyman was also reportedly approached at the same time to fill the role of the top member of the creative team before Bruce Prichard was brought back in.
Despite the fact that they will continue to report to Vince, it is understood that they will essentially be running Raw and SmackDown Live now, so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of role Triple H and other producers will have going forward.
