More Details On Several WWE Releases

Dave Meltzer has explained that WWE released so many behind-the-scenes workers this week because they “wanted to cut the head count down”, with WWE “trying to increase their profitability”.

This comes after WWE has brought in record profits for the last two years, with Meltzer providing the following additional details about the cuts on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio.

He said:

“They wanted to cut the head count down because they’re trying to increase their profitability. And if they’re trying to set the thing (company) up for a sale, that’s a good thing to do. They’re moving to a new building, so you move into a new building, you’re gonna look over things and see if you’ve got too much, too many people, if you can cut the workforce.

“A lot of key guys (were let go). It feels like they’re going less in the direction, because of where the cuts are, as far as the making of the movies, the WWE Network, they’re cutting back stuff because they don’t have the pressure. The money’s coming in either way. So they’re not gonna be doing as many new things it looks like. I figured that as soon as they sold the WWE Network, that the idea is, as far as the new programming, they’re not gonna do as much, because they’re gonna rely on docs and obviously the big shows, which they will do, but I think these people (that were released) aren’t doing that.

“Looks like some of the analytics guys (were let go). And this regime is clearly not nearly as much into analytics, because that was a big George Barrios thing, was really study the audience and see what they what, and who is our audience, and things like that. They still have people in that department but they’re not going as heavy into that as they were before. So that was down.

“Advanced Media, big cutbacks there. There’s different priorities. They’ve got a new guy in charge in Nick Khan and he’s gonna want to put his people in, in the spots. We’ve seen a lot of that recently with people who were there a long time being replaced by Nick Khan people. So that’s the nature when you put a new guy in charge.”
