Some more news has come to light regarding the name change we saw last night on WWE SmackDown with Shorty G going back to Chad Gable.
Fightful Select is reporting that this change has been planned for a number of weeks and there was actually a segment taped weeks ago where he changed but it never aired due to time constraints.
It was also noted that Drew Gulak was involved in that original segment, but he’s since been moved to Raw as part of the recent WWE Draft.
How it played out last night was he lost to Lars Sullivan and then said he was sick of being disrespected and playing the ‘you can follow your dreams no matter what’ character, so would be dropping the Shorty G name and going back to Chad Gable.
Gable did have slight success with the Shorty G gimmick for a short while, including a spot on Team Hogan in Saudi Arabia last year, but he slid back down the card into obscurity after losing constantly to Sheamus in the months that followed.
Hopefully this rejuvenation can be sustained for longer because we all know how talented Gable is. The way it played out on TV last night would suggest there is at least something decent in the works.
