Toni Storm was released from her WWE contract today (December 29) after requesting her release from the company.
Fightful Select (subscription required) has provided more information on Storm’s sudden WWE departure. WWE sources that Fightful spoke to confirmed that Storm had requested her release from the company.
Fightful reached out to people close to Storm, who said that things were fine when asked about extenuating circumstances and how she was doing.
Toni Storm worked a triple threat match at last night’s WWE live event, following which she flew herself home from the tour, per PWInsider.
As previously noted, the memo that went out about Storm’s release did not list budget cuts as the reason, which is the tradition with the other recent releases.
Fightful notes that many within WWE were ‘blindsided’ by the news of Storm requesting her release, with one source noting that it would have been difficult for WWE to justify not granting someone their release after several rounds of ‘budget cuts’.
