More Wrestlers Confirmed for WWE Mae Young Classic

WWE has confirmed 4 more wrestlers for this year’s Mae Young Classic. They are Tegan Nox, Deonna Purrazzo, Jessica Elaban and Reina González.

Tegan Nox, who previously went by the name Nixon Newell, began her career in 2014. She wrestled for various independents such as Progress Wrestling and Shimmer Women Athletes prior to signing with NXT in April 2017. She was scheduled to be in last year’s Mae Young Classic, but she tore her ACL before the tournament started.

Deonna Purrazzo was an alternate for last year’s classic and was slated to appear at Cody and the Young Buck’s All In show. Now, having recently signed with the WWE, she cannot be at the big indie show and many have questioned if this was an attempt to steal away talent from All In.  However, Purrazzo has been with the WWE before, appearing in small, jobber and enhancement roles and Cody wished her well via his Twitter account.

Jessica Elaban is a WWE Performance Center signee from 2017. While she might not have as much wrestling experience as some of the others in the tournament, this could be a big stepping stone for her to move up the NXT ladder.

Reina González is another woman making her second appearance as she also competed in last year’s event. The daughter of Ricky ‘Desperado’ González, the second generation wrestler hopes to surpass her outing from last year when she was ousted in the first round.

These women join the already announced Io Shirai, Kacy Catanzaro, Rhea Ripley and the returning Kaitlyn, amongst others, for this year’s tournament. With just weeks to go before the taping of the event, more announced participants are sure to be coming our way.
