A multi-time former champion has reportedly departed TNA Wrestling following the expiry of his contract.
Last month it was reported that multi-time former X-Division and TNA World Tag Team Champion Ace Austin was in talks with the company in regards to an extension to his contract.
While it was noted that TNA were hopeful of retaining Austin, PWInsider has now confirmed that the 28 year old has instead exited the company after the two sides didn’t come to terms on a new contract.
Former TNA President, and current owner of Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling Scott D’Amore commented on Austin’s departure in his latest column on Yahoo Sports, revealing that the split was “amicable”.
Heaping praise on Austin and his potential beyond TNA, D’Amore wrote:
Nothing has been said publicly, but Ace Austin’s contract with TNA is up. It is amicable — Ace has been there since he was barely out of his teens.
I signed him, and everything he’s shown since confirmed that Ace Austin becoming a massive star is, indeed, “inevitable.”
He’s ready for that next chapter. I think it is time Ace Austin goes all in on proving he’s one of the best.
Austin’s departure wraps up a six year stint in TNA, in which he captured the X-Division Championship three times, as well as three TNA World Tag Team Title reigns alongside Chris Bey as ABC.
We will provide updates on Austin’s future post-TNA when further news becomes available.
