Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has given out three more servings of 5-star ratings in his most recent episode. The three matches are the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth to receive at least the honor in 2018 thus far.
The first is perhaps the most historic. Moustache Mountain vs. the Undisputed Era for the NXT Tag Team Championships is the first WWE television match to ever receive 5-stars. The bout has generated buzz around the wrestling business with many people clashing over their opinions of the use of crowd chants. The Full Sail crowd had a duelling chant of “Moustache Mountain” and “Undisputed” going for minutes on end, leading people to criticize the audience for not watching the action in the ring. The contest as a whole, however, has received near-universal praise. The finish of Bate throwing in the towel to save his partner from further damage was unique in this day and age, with the action and storytelling being second-to-none.
