Well that was all rather sudden, wasn’t it? One week we get the announcement Mustafa Ali is having a surprise match with Daniel Bryan, the next he’s pinning the WWE Champion and being announced as a full-time member of the blue brand’s roster.
Ali was one of the most popular faces on the increasingly popular 205 Live brand, and has proved in the two weeks he’s spent on the main roster that he has everything required to be a huge star.
Not only did he main event SmackDown last night, but he hit his incredibly impressive (and this time unfortunately botched) 054 Splash on Daniel Bryan to pick up a shock pinfall victory while teaming with AJ Styles against Bryan and Andrade “Cien” Almas.
Ali’s move to the main roster really asks the question now whether other 205 Live stars will start to make moves to Raw or SmackDown. The Lucha House Party also made the move to the main roster in November, so it seems that either 205 Live is being slowly gutted, or that WWE have finally realised what a talented group of wrestlers they have on the purple brand.
Either way, it’s great to see Ali getting a chance to shine, and hopefully it’s not long before the likes of Buddy Murphy and Cedric Alexander follow suit.
