WWE Raw star Mustafa Ali has revealed who he thought he’d be facing at next weekend’s WrestleMania 37 event.
In an interview with Metro, Ali explained that he believed he’d be facing Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania, which is something that had been teased on TV and had a great in-built backstory going back to WrestleMania 35 in 2019.
“The story was presented and I really thought that was the direction we might be going for in this year’s WrestleMania. Again, like I said, things change and other things take priority sometimes. We almost got to it, so I will try to get to it again. There’s so much real emotion that I can just bring up and bring out in promos leading to that match. When we do do it, I hope we’re allowed to do it right because I feel like it’d be one hell of a story.”
Mustafa Ali was being positioned as a breakout star heading into WrestleMania two years ago, but an injury derailed him and Kofi Kingston replaced him in the Elimination Chamber match, which led to ‘KofiMania’ and him winning the WWE Title.
Ali is no longer the leader of the RETRIBUTION faction after the other members exiled him from the group at Fastlane, and he’s in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the April 9 SmackDown this year instead of the WrestleMania card.
Meanwhile, Kingston teams with fellow Raw Tag Team Champion Xavier Woods to defend the title against AJ Styles & Omos on April 10.
