A WWE star has revealed that Vince McMahon approved his use of Hulk Hogan’s Real American theme song.
Mustafa Ali once claimed on social media that he almost got to use Hulk Hogan’s Real American theme in WWE, but no further details were ever revealed.
Speaking with WrestleBinge Sportskeeda, Ali shed more light on the situation and revealed the use of the theme was planned to be in more of a tongue-in-cheek way to enhance a gimmick change. He said:
“That was an actual discussion I had, and at one point that was going to be my entrance music,”
According to Ali, the plan was for him to portray a politician-inspired character who would launch campaigns against his opponents and use his podium to stake a claim for title opportunities.
Further explaining how his conversations with Vince McMahon in regards to the new character went, Ali said:
“I remember talking to Vince [McMahon] and saying, ‘Hey, [the song] would really get this character over because there’s nothing more American in this world than Mustafa Ali. What if I came out to ‘Real American?'”
Despite McMahon loving the idea and discussing a debut for the character afterward, the idea never came to fruition because WWE wasn’t sure if the political persona would resonate with a live audience.
