Here is the latest on Mustafa Ali’s WWE status, following reports that his request to be released from his WWE deal was denied.
On January 16, Ali announced that he requested his release from WWE. Following reports that WWE informed Ali that his request will not be granted, the wrestling world has been sharing messages of support for the SmackDown star with the hashtag #FreeAli.
As per Fightful Select (subscription required), WWE sources revealed that Ali has ‘well over a year, at least’ left on his current WWE contract. A specific expiration date is currently unknown.
WWE reportedly has no working plans in creative for Ali, despite the term ‘value’ reportedly being used in reasoning for denying him a release from his contract.
Ahead of last weekend’s WWE Royal Rumble event, Ali tweeted that he has no interest in competing in the 30-man match, and just wants out of his contract. Fightful reports that there had been a pitch for Ali to wrestle in the Rumble, with one talent suggesting Ali should eliminate them.
Ali hasn’t appeared on WWE TV since the October 29 edition of SmackDown. The star reportedly had a heated argument with Vince McMahon before asking for his release.
