New AEW Signing Confirmed After WWE Interest

Another new signing to AEW has been confirmed after a tease on last night’s Dynamite, and it’s someone WWE was well aware of.

Eagle-eyed viewers of last night’s AEW Dynamite will have spotted an animated spider briefly appearing on the screen at the start of the show.

The spider was in fact a tease for a new arrival, that being Thekla.

Thekla is known as “The Toxic Spider” and has commented that she thinks of her offense and the way she moves around in the ring as being similar to a spider, hence that being the indication of her arrival.

Fightful Select reports that Thekla has officially agreed terms with AEW and has signed a contract with the promotion.

WWE did reportedly “have their eye” on her as of last year when scouting international talent, but there’s no word on if it led to anything more than that.

Thekla is originally from Vienna, Austria, but is best known for her wrestling work in Japan where she’s worked for promotions like Ice Ribbon – where she’s a former Triangle Ribbon Champion – and STARDOM.

Her athletic background includes ballet and Wing Chun kung fu, and she got into wrestling after she and a group of friends were hanging out after a punk rock concert and decided to try and become wrestlers – and she was actually the only one who followed through with it.
