It has been revealed that a new AEW star actually signed with the promotion back in January, but injury had kept him out of action until now.
Brian Cage, who will challenge Jon Moxley for the World Championship at Fyter Fest after winning the Casino Ladder Match at Double Or Nothing, was signed and paid while rehabbing a torn bicep.
Speaking after Double Or Nothing, AEW president and CEO Tony Khan said:
“Brian signed and he was injured when he signed. There were people who were like, ‘you paid him the whole time he was hurt and he didn’t get hurt in your company.’ But I really like Brian and I really believed in him. I wanted this with Brian and Taz all along and there was a method to it, but he wasn’t going to be ready to go until around Double or Nothing. But I always knew Brian was going to factor into Double or Nothing. He was always expected to be cleared in May. So, we signed him, he rehabbed and got ready.”
It was reported in January that he had signed, but the reports were denied by his wife which led to speculation that they were untrue. Clearly they were in fact accurate.
No date has been confirmed for Fyter Fest yet, but details are expected to be announced during this week’s episode of Dynamite.
