A new challenger for the ROH Women’s Championship has been revealed on today’s (November 25) Black Friday edition of AEW Rampage.
On the November 18 episode of AEW Rampage, Athena solidified her slow burn heel turn that has been ongoing on AEW Dark and Elevation by beating Madison Rayne and then attacking referee Aubrey Edwards.
Following her attack, ROH Women’s Champion Mercedes Martinez made her return to make the save and confront Athena.
On today’s AEW Rampage, Lexy Nair interviewed Athena about her actions and being suspended for striking a referee.
After giving a lackluster apology for her actions and criticizing the company, the former Ember Moon challenged Mercedes Martinez to put the Ring of Honor Women’s Championship on the line against her.
This looks to be the title bout being set up for the upcoming ROH Final Battle 2022 event on December 10.
Martinez has been the ROH Women’s Champion since winning the interim title at Supercard of Honor in April over Willow Nightingale in April. She then went on to defeat Deonna Purrazzo to become the undisputed champion in May.
We will have further updates and breaking news from today’s AEW Rampage on the home page.
