A new IWGP World Heavyweight Champion has been crowned at NJPW King of Pro Wrestling 2024 from Ryogoku.

Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Yota Tsuji to become the first British wrestler and second foreigner ever to win the G1 Climax tournament.

Going against the tradition of the tournament winner challenging at Wrestle Kingdom in January, Sabre Jr. decided to take his title shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship early at King of Pro Wrestling in October.

At today’s NJPW King of Pro Wrestling, Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Tetsuya Naito to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

ZSJ is only the second British wrestler to win the top prize in New Japan after Will Ospreay won the title in 2021.

Post match, SANADA came out to officially challenge Sabre Jr. for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title at this Sunday’s Royal Quest event in London, England.

Then, Shota Umino and Shingo Takagi also came out to challenge ZSJ after scoring wins against him in the G1 Climax 34 tournament. Sabre Jr. said he will face SANADA first and figure out when the other two competitors will face him.
