Big E and Kofi Kingston of the New Day took a knee in the ring before their tag team match that aired on tonight’s episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown on FOX.
This is of course in protest of police brutality and racism, and showing solidarity to the Black Lives Matter movement.
E and Kingston also wore black armbands in respect for, and demanding justice for, Shukri Abdi, Breonna Taylor and Tamla Horsford.
The SmackDown Tag Team Champions would go on to lose the match to the team of Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro.
As of now New Day doesn’t have a title defence scheduled for Backlash but don’t be surprised if a rematch with Nakamura and Cesaro with the titles on the line is announced for this Sunday’s pay-per-view.
This was of course a great thing to see, and while there is still a lot of work to be done, hopefully acts like this will serve to educate and guide people on the importance of fighting for equality for all.
