The original plan for The New Day’s WWE heel turn has been revealed, following Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turning on Big E.
In what many fans are calling the segment of the year, Kingston and Woods rejected Big E’s offer to be their manager during Big E’s return on the December 2 Raw episode.
The duo argued that Big E had chosen his new life over the New Day while out with injury, and refused to hug him when he approached them.
With many believing this segment was perfectly executed, many have wondered what was originally planned for the New Day’s implosion, with Odyssey Jones previously teaming with Kingston and Woods.
Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plan was for Kingston and Woods to side with Jones and have him publicly replace Big E during their heel turn.
Meltzer wrote:
“When Odyssey Jones came in, they were going to tease issues with them not getting along but it would end up with Kingston & Woods going heel by choosing Jones and having him publicly replace E.
But then Jones got fired and the whole thing was put on hold.”
Jones was abruptly removed from WWE TV following serious allegations being made against him.
Kofi Kingston has addressed the reaction to him and Xavier Woods turning on Big E, which you can read more about right here.
