The new holder of a recently vacated WWE championship has now been crowned following an injury to the former champion.
During the ongoing fallout of the D’Angelo Family, it was announced last week that Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo would face Noam Dar for the NXT Heritage Cup on tonight’s NXT show.
The match was made by Stacks’ consigliere, with Luca Crusifino telling Tony D’Angelo that it wasn’t him that got the match made for Stacks.
However, it was announced ahead of the show that Noam Dar was not cleared to compete, leading to the NXT Heritage Cup being vacated ahead of Stacks’ match for the cup on tonight’s show.
Instead, Luca got Tony D’Angelo in the match, with Tony and Stacks now set to face off for the vacant Heritage Cup on tonight’s episode of NXT.
Tony would end up scoring the first fall of the match over Stacks, before outside interference from Stacks’ entourage led to Stacks scoring the second fall, before Luca Crusifino came to ringside for the final fall.
Luca would fight with one of Stacks’ entourage on the outside, before accidentally hitting Tony with a bucket, leading to Stacks scoring the win and becoming the new WWE NXT Heritage Cup Champion.
