A new IMPACT Wrestling World Champion was crowned during tonight’s episode of the show, dethroning former champ Eddie Edwards.
Eric Young, who made his return to the promotion at Slammiversary in July, defeated Edwards tonight to win the title for a second time.
Edwards had held the title since Slammiversary where he beat Young, Rich Swann, Trey Miguel and Ace Austin in a five-way match.
It had previously been vacated as former champion Tessa Blanchard was fired by the promotion due to issues throughout the COVID-19 including her not sending through video promos that had been requested.
Young’s only previous reign with the title came back in April 2014 and only lasted 70 days. He beat Magnus (Nick Aldis) on the April 10 episode of IMPACT to cap off a build that basically mirrored Daniel Bryan at the exact same time period, but then lost it to Bobby Lashley on June 19.
Young has been pretty outspoken since he was released by WWE in April, and although he says he holds no ill will towards the company, he does believe Vince McMahon failed as a leader due to him not putting Young on TV.
