After Will Ospreay was forced to vacate the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship last month, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) crowned a brand new champion at Dominion today.
In the show’s main event, Shingo Takagi defeated Kazuchika Okada to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. This is the first time that Takagi has won the belt, either in its current form or in any of its previous iterations.
Many speculated that Kazuchika Okada would be walking out of Dominion with the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, especially as it was rumoured that he was set to beat Ospreay for the belt this summer, but NJPW has gone in another direction.
The match was unsurprisingly fantastic, with the finishing coming when Shingo Takagi managed to hit Last of the Dragon on Okada to pick up the win.
