The semifinal matches of the 2022 New Japan Cup are now set, with the final four competitors in the tournament now determined.
From an original field of 46 names, just four competitors remain in this year’s tournament, Zack Sabre Jr, Shingo Takagi, Tetsuya Naito and IWGP World Champion Kazuchika Okada,
Okada and Naito advanced to the final four on Sunday (March 20), with the Rainmaker pinning CIMA, and the Los Ingobernables de Japon leader besting Jeff Cobb.
Sabre Jr and Takagi won their quarter-final bouts earlier today, with Sabre Jr picking up the victory over Will Ospreay, and Takagi defeating Hiromu Takahashi.
Takagi is the only semifinalist not to have previously won the tournament, but was the runner-up to Will Ospreay last year. Okada took home the trophy in 2013 and 2019, Naito in 2016, and Sabre Jr winning the 2018 iteration of the tournament.
Okada will face off against Naito, and Takagi will do battle with Sabre Jr on Saturday to determine the two stars set to meet in the tournament final, which takes place on Sunday’s show.
