The winner of the New Japan Cup 2023 has been revealed.
The New Japan Cup 2023 Final took place today, March 21. After the two-week tournament, SANADA went one-on-one with David Finlay.
Both men have experienced big changes throughout the tournament. Following his attack on Jay White, Finlay kicked off the New Japan Cup 2023 by joining the Bullet Club and aligning with Gedo as his manager.
Meanwhile, long-time Los Ingobernables de Japon member SANADA defeated LIJ’s leader Tetsuya Naito in the quarterfinals.
After being motivated by Taichi in the first round, SANADA announced that he was leaving LIJ and joining Taichi’s “Just Four Guys” stable to make them “Just Five Guys.”
The Finals between SANADA and David Finlay was fast paced and hard hitting with the two competitors trading reversals until the final moments.
In the end, SANADA hit his modified DDT to defeat David Finlay and win the New Japan Cup 2023. The former LIJ member will now move on to face Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Sakura Genesis on April 8.
