Japanese daily newspaper Tokyo Sports is hosting a special wrestling supercard featuring top acts from NJPW, AJPW, NOAH, BJW and WRESTLE-1 on February 19 at Sumo Hall.
Wrestling All-Star Battle celebrates both the newspaper’s 60th anniversary and commemorates the 20th anniversary of the death of All-Japan Pro Wrestling founded Giant Baba.
Tokyo Sports held a similar show to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 1979, headlined by Baba and his great rival (and New Japan founder) Antonio Inoki.
Follow-up events of sorts occurred in 2011 and 2012 called ALL TOGETHER, in which various promotions combined to raise over 58 million yen towards the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami relief efforts.
Although no card or even talent has yet been confirmed, it is expected that all of the promotions involved will send their biggest stars to the show.
While mouth-watering singles clashes between top stars from rival groups are unlikely, there will almost certainly be multi-man inter-promotional battles, creating a host of fresh and unique match-ups.
