A new announcement has been made regarding John Cena and his role in an upcoming WWE NXT stipulation match.

The next NXT Premium Live event is Deadline coming up on December 6 in San Antonio, Texas.

Since 2022, Deadline has hosted the Iron Survivor Challenge matches for the men and women each year, with the winners earning title shots.

On tonight’s November 18 episode of WWE NXT, it was confirmed that the Iron Survivor Challenge matches will return this year.

However, there will be a change to how the competitors are decided, which has traditionally been that a variety of WWE legends have each chosen someone to enter.

This year all 10 participants – five for the men and five for the women – will be chosen by John Cena.

John Cena has made a few visits to the WWE Performance Center recently, working with NXT talents.

He also recently revealed that his retirement show – WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 – will feature a number of NXT talents facing main roster stars, which is something Cena himself suggsted.

Cena’s announcement of the 10 Iron Survivor entrants will be revealed on next week’s NXT, which is actually being taped tonight.

The news of Cena announcing the lineup was followed tonight by Tavion Heights passionately pitching that he wants to be in this year, before he was attacked by Josh Briggs.

The previous Iron Survivor Challenge winners have been Roxanne Perez, Blair Davenport and Giulia for the women, and Grayson Waller, Trick Williams and Oba Femi for the men.
