New Match Added To ROH 17th Anniversary Event

Ring of Honor has announced that Marty Scurll will wrestle Kenny King at the ROH 17th Anniversary event. The match has been set up at recent ROH TV tapings.

Kenny King issued a challenge to Marty Scurll in Lakeland, Florida on February 9th. Their issues stem from a confrontation that occurred during a four-way match at Bound by Honor in Miami. During the match, Kenny King hit a low blow on Scurll and pinned him while holding the trunks.

Marty Scurll is currently in possession of a future ROH World Championship match. At this point it appears likely that his title match will take place at the G1 Supercard event at Madison Square Garden this coming April. He defended his title shot at Final Battle when he defeated Christopher Daniels.

Meanwhile, Kenny King has stated that he believes he deserves a title shot. His belief comes from his match with ROH Champion Jay Lethal at Global Wars: Toronto. During that match, King pinned Lethal while using the ropes for leverage, momentarily scoring a pinfall. The referee quickly waved off the pin and King was defeated shortly afterwards. While this match at the ROH 17th Anniversary event is not currently for Scurll’s title shot, a win over ‘The Villain’ would put King in line for a shot at Jay Lethal.

The updated card for the ROH 17th Anniversary show is as follows:

  • ROH World Championship match – Jay Lethal (c) vs. Matt Taven
  • ROH World Tag Team Championships match – The Briscoes (c) vs. Villain Enterprises (PCO & Brody King)
  • Rush vs. Bandido
  • Marty Scurll vs. Kenny King
