WWE has confirmed a second match for Sunday’s Fastlane’s kickoff show. A match pitting the New Day duo of Big E and Xavier Woods against the newly-formed tandem of Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev will now take place on the show, joining the already-announced grudge match between Andrade and Rey Mysterio.
Here is WWE’s official announcement courtesy of WWE.com:
The unlikely alliance of The King of Strong Style & The Bulgarian Brute is a very interesting combination of brutality and cunning. They forged their union in recent months out of the ashes of their respective United States Championship losses. Yet, despite all that they clearly bring to the table, do Nakamura & Rusev have the strength to overcome two-thirds of the longest-reigning Tag Team Champions in WWE history, especially considering that Big E & Woods are fueled by resentment over their cohort Kofi Kingston being replaced in Sunday’s WWE Title Match?
Don’t miss WWE Fastlane Kickoff this Sunday at 6 ET/3 PT, streaming live on the award-winning WWE Network, WWE.com, the WWE App, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter!
It is perhaps noteworthy that Kofi Kingston has not been placed into the match, further the storyline that he is being overlooked and leading to his eventual title match showdown at WrestleMania with Daniel Bryan. It is a smart move from WWE. By not having Kofi wrestle on the show, especially in a meaningless kickoff match, the clamour to see him will only increase.
