Over the last few days, it has been reported that NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa will undergo major neck surgery and be and out of action for up to a year.
This would not only rule Ciampa out of NXT Takeover: New York and WrestleMania 35, but Johnny Gargano’s former best friend turned enemy will also be forced to vacate the NXT Championship. Ciampa won the championship in July 2018 after defeating Aleister Black thanks to some assistance from the aforementioned Gargano.
Since this news broke, wrestling fans have been speculating about who will succeed Ciampa as NXT Champion. We even made a list of 10 potential candidates.
We may not need to speculate anymore, as @SliceWrestling are reporting that Triple H is considering either Adam Cole or Matt Riddle (both in the top three of our previous list) as the next NXT Champion. The post also notes that NXT are planning to crown a new champion at NXT Takeover: New York on April 5th.

Whilst we are not 100% sure of the legitimacy of these claims, the next set of NXT tapings will most definitely be interesting, and perhaps may sort out the NXT Championship situation.
