New NXT UK Championship Number One Contender Revealed

On Friday and Saturday night, WWE hosted a two-day set of NXT UK tapings in Coventry. On both nights, former Universal and NXT Champion Finn Balor was in action. Balor even teased a mouth-watering clash with Tyler Bate.

On recent episodes of NXT, Finn Balor has been teasing a feud with NXT UK Champion WALTER. It is believed that they will go one-on-one at either NXT TakeOver: Tampa Bay or NXT UK TakeOver: Dublin, both of which are set to take place next month.

However, at the most recent set of NXT UK tapings, a number one contender was crowned for the NXT UK Championship, and it isn’t Finn Balor.

Ashton Smith, Oliver Carter, Tyler Bate, Joe Coffey, Noam Dar, Tyson T-Bone, Dave Mastiff, Kassius Ohno, Travis Banks, Jordan Devlin, Saxton Huxley, Flash Morgan Webster, A-Kid, Kenny Williams, Ilja Dragunov and Amir Jordan competed in a battle royale on the final match of the tapings.

The battle royale was won by Ilja Dragunov, but there is no word on when he will be challenging WALTER for the title.

I have said for a number of months now that I think the man to take the NXT UK Title off of WALTER will be Ilja Dragunov. However, I expect WALTER to have to defeat Finn Balor at TakeOver: Tampa first, setting up the match with Ilja at the Dublin show.
