New ROH Women’s Championship Tournament Announced

A former WWE star announced a big ROH Women’s Championship Tournament at ROH 19th Anniversary, set for later this year.

During last night’s ROH pay-per-view, Maria Kanellis-Bennett announced that a tournament will take place in the summer to crown a new ROH Women’s World Champion. Kanellis-Bennett invited women from “all over” to compete for the gold.

The Women of Honor Championship was most recently held by Kelly Klein before Klein was stripped of the title after ROH didn’t renew her contract. A tournament was originally planned for 2020 to crown a ROH Women’s World Champion, but was delayed due to the pandemic.

Ring of Honor took to Twitter to celebrate this announcement:

Kanellis-Bennett also announced a future match between Allure member Angelina Love and Quinn McKay. If Love wins this TV match, she will receive a first-round bye in the Women’s Championship Tournament. Stay tuned to WrestleTalk for more information on participants in the future.

Also at ROH 19th Anniversary, Danhausen hit a variation of the GTS during his match. To read CM Punk and KENTA’s reactions, click here.
