NXT General Manager William Regal has announced on Twitter that Matt Riddle will challenge Velveteen Dream for the North American Championship at TakeOver: New York on April 5:
Last night, @SuperKingofBros nearly had @VelveteenWWE beat in the Fatal 5-Way. While Riddle came up short, I want to see what happens when Riddle and Dream compete one-on-one, for the NXT North American Title… at #NXTTakeover: New York!

On the March 6 edition of NXT, Riddle came onto the stage to get a “closer look” at the championship during a Dream promo, planting the seeds for this here match.
Last night, both men were part of a five-way to determine who would face Johnny Gargano for the vacant NXT Championship at TakeOver, which was won by Adam Cole.
The card for TakeOver looks like a blinder, as usual:
- Pete Dunne (c) vs. WALTER – WWE UK Title
- Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole – Two-out-of-three falls – NXT Title
- Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Io Shirai vs. Kairi Sane vs. Bianca Belair – NXT Women’s Title
- War Raiders (c) vs. Forgotten Sons or Ricochet/Aleister Black – NXT Tag Team Titles
- Velveteen Dream (c) vs. Matt Riddle – North American Title
