The new holder of a WWE championship has been crowned after the former champion relinquished the championship to them.
DarkState became two-time NXT Tag Team Champions back at NXT Halloween Havoc, where they defeated the Hardy Boyz to win back the titles in a Broken Rules match.
DarkState had been represented during both reigns by the duo of Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin, but there has now been a change to the the line up.
Last week, John Cena announced the five competitors in the Men’s Iron Survivor match at NXT Deadline, with Cena choosing Lennox as one of the five participants in the match.
Lennox would go on to tell the rest of the group later in the night that he was focused on bringing more singles gold to DarkState by winning the Iron Survivor.
In an update, Lennox reiterated his desire to chase singles gold on tonight’s NXT show, saying that his full focus won’t be on the NXT Tag Team Championship as it should be.
Lennox would then hand his title over to Saquon Shugars, who will now represent DarkState as one half of the NXT Tag Team Champions with Osiris Griffin in Lennox’s place.
