The new WWE NXT Champion has now officially been crowned after Oba Femi vacated the championship back at New Year’s Evil.
At NXT New Years Evil, Oba Femi defeated TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater to retain the NXT Championship, before he would relinquish the title, leaving it in the ring to close the show.
It was then announced that a Ladder match would take place on the February 3 episode of NXT to determine the new champion, with Ricky Saints being announced for the match before five qualifiers took place.
The qualifiers for the match would see Shiloh Hill defeat Josh Briggs, Sean Legacy defeat Eli Knight, Keanu Carver defeat Andre Chase and Dion Lennox defeat Myles Borne.
Joe Hendry and Jackson Drake’s qualifier was called off after an attack on Hendry, with Drake earning a bye into the match, before it was then announced that Hendry would also be cleared for the match, making it a seven-man clash.
The match took place to close out tonight’s NXT show, with Joe Hendry scoring the win to become the new NXT Champion.
Tonight’s show also saw the announcement of a new interim NXT General Manager following Ava’s WWE departure, which you can see here.
