Earlier today (July 10) a statement was issued by CMLL & NJPW confirming that Stephanie Vaquer had departed the companies effective immediately and would no longer be competing at an upcoming event on July 13.

It was then reported by Fightful Select that despite interest from AEW, sources within Tony Khan’s company instead believed that it was “likely” that Vaquer would be heading to WWE.

Record Mexico, who published the original report on Vaquer receiving contract offers from WWE and AEW, would then follow up by also reporting that Vaquer was set to sign with WWE.

Now yet another new update has been reported regarding on Vaquer’s move to WWE, with Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp revealing via Twitter that the former CMLL Women’s World Champion was in fact spotted backstage at WWE NXT Heatwave on July 7 in Toronto, Canada.

Sean Ross Sapp wrote:

Sources claim to @FightfulSelect that Stephanie Vaquer is WWE and NXT bound and was backstage at NXT Heatwave

Vaquer herself has now publicly addressed her CMLL & NJPW departure for the first time, posting the following message to her Twitter account:

At this moment I stop belonging to the ranks of CMLL and NJPW Clarify, I AM LEAVING THROUGH THE BIG DOOR, forever grateful to the WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL AND NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING, and in the best terms.

From today I vacate the CMLL World Women’s Championship as well as the CMLL World Women’s Couples Championship. For which I offer an apology to the fans.

For obvious reasons, I will not be present at the next shows and I hope you can understand that the terms between companies are what lead to this statement.

With Mexico in my heart and with the commitment to represent Mexican wrestling wherever I go Infinite thanks to SR Salvador Lutteroth for his good wishes and also to all the unconditional support of my people and my colleagues

WrestleTalk will post further updates on Vaquer’s future as/when they become available.
