After months of speculation, two top free agents have now signed contracts with WWE according to a new report.
It was reported earlier this week by PWNexus that former multi-time TNA World Tag Team Champions the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) were WWE bound, with the team set to debut on the NXT brand.
Shelley would later be spotted sharing (and later deleting) a post which featured the WWE NXT theme song, seemingly backing up this report.
Finally, on the evening September 13, Mike Johnson of PWInsider confirmed with several sources that Shelley and Sabin have in fact signed with WWE.
Johnson would also back up PWNexus’s report regarding the Motor City Machine Guns’ WWE’s current plans for their debut, stating that the team are set to first appear on or before NXT’s premiere episode on the CW Network on October 1 in Chicago, IL.
Fightful Select would also report on the situation, also confirming that Shelley and Sabin had signed with WWE.
Shelley and Sabin have been free agents since April when their TNA contracts expired, with reports shortly after their departure suggesting that the pair were set to sign with AEW.
However, as detailed in PWNexus’s report earlier this week, those talks fell through, opening the door for their eventual move to WWE.
In Fightful’s report, they revealed that creative pitches had been made for Shelley and Sabin in AEW, but nothing ultimately came of it.
Across their over 20 year in-ring careers neither Shelley or Sabin have ever been signed with WWE, with the closest either have come to the company being Shelley’s participation in the NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic alongside KUSHIDA in 2020.
WrestleTalk will provide further details on the Motor City Machine Guns’ debut in WWE as/when they become available.
