The next man who will challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship was decided on tonight’s episode of SmackDown.
The last match of the night was a #1 contender battle royal, which was won by Sami Zayn, who last eliminated runner-up Jeff Hardy.
Zayn had spilled out the ring through the middle of the ropes earlier in the match, and stayed on the outside with the idea that people would forget about him and think Hardy had won, so he could capitalise.
The show didn’t end with Sami Zayn celebrating though, as it was instead the announcement of Brock Lesnar’s return next week now his suspension has been lifted, which had Zayn, Reigns, Adam Pearce, and pretty much everyone, quite concerned.
It hasn’t been announced when the Roman Reigns vs Sami Zayn Universal Championship match will take place if it does end up happening, because there’s always a chance Lesnar’s return could include him destroying Zayn and WWE not actually doing the match.
Also in the battle royal were Drew Gulak, Erik, Ivar, Mansoor, MACE, Angel, Humberto, Jinder Mahal, Shanky, Ricochet, Rick Boogs, Cesaro, Sheamus, Ridge Holland, Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss.
