Nicholas Jackson Reveals Tony Khan ‘Wasn’t Very High’ On Popular AEW Star At First AEW

Nicholas Jackson has revealed that Tony Khan “wasn’t very high” on a popular AEW star early on in the company’s existence.

As All Elite Wrestling enters its sixth year in 2025, AEW EVP Nicholas Jackson has recalled his and Matthew Jackson’s involvement in help build the initial roster for the company back in 2019.

One of the core members from that original AEW roster that is still going strong today is Orange Cassidy, having recently challenged for Jon Moxley’s AEW World Championship at back-to-back pay-per-view events (Full Gear & Worlds End).

While Cassidy is now at a main event level, and has achieved great success over the years in the company, Nicholas revealed in a recent interview with Social Suplex’s Tunnel Talk, that Tony Khan wasn’t initially sold on Freshly Squeezed.

Reflecting on how he and Matthew had to “sell” Cassidy to Khan, he said:

“Chuck Taylor, of course, we’ve been good buddies with him since the CHIKARA days as well. It’s funny, there is a lot of the CHIKARA guys backstage to this day. Bryce Remsberg is another one, we’ve always been friends with him too.”

“A lot of those guys, we specifically hired because of our CHIKARA days with them. I remember that Tony [Khan] wasn’t very high on Orange Cassidy at first so we had to kind of sell him on him for a little bit. And I remember Tony saying: ‘You guys were right.’”

Cassidy most recently competed at this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen, losing to Hangman Page in a first time encounter.
