AEW announced on September 2 that they had terminated CM Punk’s contracts with the company with cause.
Punk’s termination came following the investigation into the backstage incident at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium.
With Punk’s termination from AEW, there has obviously been speculation of him potentially making a return to WWE.
Today, Endeavor’s takeover of WWE and merger with the UFC to form TKO was finalised, and WWE president Nick Khan was asked by ESPN about the possibility of Punk making his return to WWE.
On Punk, Khan said:
“Listen, we only have respect for Phil. We appreciate his run here. We appreciate what he did and tried to do with the UFC. Not many people can actually get in there and do what he did. So, when we have respect for Phil, we wish him nothing but the best.”
It is not currently known if Punk is subject to a non-compete clause after his termination with cause.
Punk was reportedly open to a potential return to WWE following his suspension from the company last year after the initial AEW All Out incident.
