WWE made their most recent batch of releases back on August 6, when 13 NXT talents were let go from their contract, including former NXT North American Champion Bronson Reed and former NXT Tag Team Champion Bobby Fish.
Alongside the releases, reports had emerged that the reason behind them was to introduce a ‘new feel’ to NXT, taking it back to ‘2015 NXT’.
WWE President Nick Khan recently spoke with Ariel Helwani of BT Sport, where he confirmed the speculation that changes will be coming to NXT over the next few weeks.
Khan said:
“In terms of an NXT rebrand, look for it in the next couple of weeks. It’s going to have a whole new look. It’s going to have a whole new feel, and we believe because a lot of the “indy wrestlers”, if you will, have come through our system and are in our system with Smackdown and Raw now, we don’t want to just keep doing that same thing, we want to look elsewhere for great young talent.”
NXT is hosting it’s Takeover 36 event tonight, which could serve as an ‘end of an era’ for the current era of NXT, especially with the show returning to a taped format following Takeover.
Samoa Joe and Karrion Kross, who compete for the NXT Championship on that show, tore apart the Capital Wrestling Center, which served as a way to introduce the new look set.
